The mad scientist laboratory!
Finally, a place to work out my crazy experiments, keep my bubbling test tubes and chill out in my lab coat. The laboratory. Secretly just a place to keep track of my side projects.
The idea for the lab – originally called the playground – was born a while ago, when I was working on the first project you can see in there. I wanted a separate space on my site to keep logs, pictures and videos of the progress. “Why not just put those projects in your portfolio?” you may ask. Well, let me explain. These projects are literally more experiments than real projects, hence I thought ‘lab’ was more fitting than ‘playground’. I like to challenge myself from time to time, so usually these projects are not web design/development related. Instead, they are something completely new to me, so most of it will be done via the classic trial and error method. I do them just for fun, because I like to create things. Because I cannot be hired for these type of projects (I just don’t feel comfortable offering it), they will not be in my portfolio. I’d like to keep my portfolio clean, not cluttered with half-finished, badly-constructed things.
That being said, I love the way my own little mad scientist lab turned out. Whenever I start a new project, it will show up on the main page of the lab. And, because most of these experiments are long-term projects, I will add progress updates as sub-posts. Just click on a project in the list and it will take you to that project’s page, where the new updates will be added on the bottom of the page. I have no deadlines for these projects, so make sure to check regularly for updates! Additionally, you can subscribe to the lab’s RSS feed or follow me on Twitter, where I will tweet whenever I add an update to any project. I’d also love if you would leave a comment on the projects. I’m always open for suggestions or ideas for these projects, or maybe even a new project you just don’t have the time for yourself.
So, do you dare to enter the mad scientist’s territory? Go to the lab to view the first two projects!
